Monitoring and Scouting for ABW's

Posted on March 17, 2014

Syngenta's GreenCast presents "ABW Adults: Monitoring and Scouting using a flush soap" and "ABW Larvae: Monitoring and Scouting using Salt Flush," featuring Steve McDonald, President of Turfgrass Disease Solutions.

Annual Bluegrass Weevils (ABW) are the most troublesome insect pest for golf course superintendents in the northeastern United States. ABW is largely a specialist on highly maintained Poa annua, damaging playing surfaces such as fairways, tees, approaches, collars and even greens.

McDonald explains how to monitor and scout for Adult ABW's in golf course turf by using a soap flush technique, and by using a salt flush technique for ABW Larvae.

Monitoring for adults is recommended in late March and through the spring at least once a week during the warmest part of the day.
